Compare credit cards for points and miles

Start with the card’s ongoing cost and repayment model. A welcome offer is temporary; fees, interest risk and acceptance remain after the bonus is gone. For many people, keeping their current payment method is the right result.

Set every card to full monthly repayment where the issuer allows it. MyFlex and Eurowings Premium open with partial repayment settings; carrying a balance can cost far more than the miles are worth.

The comparison in one table

Fees and terms were checked against official issuer sources on 30 August 2026. They can change. “Issuer FX fee” excludes exchange-rate effects and any ATM-operator charge.

OptionRegular priceBase earning on eligible spendIssuer FX feeRepayment and main trade-off
No new rewards card€0NoneNo new fee, credit line or points system to manage
PAYBACK Amex€01 PAYBACK point per €3; fuel excluded2%Full monthly statement; Amex acceptance
PAYBACK Visa€29/year1 PAYBACK point per €50%Full monthly debit; low base earning but broad Visa use
Amex Green€55/year with annual billing or €5/month; following year waived above €9,000 annual spend1 Membership Rewards point per €12%Full monthly statement; flexible points without Gold/Platinum pricing
Amex Gold€240/year1 Membership Rewards point per €12%Full monthly statement; credits and insurance matter only if you use their terms
Amex Platinum€720/year1 Membership Rewards point per €12%Full monthly statement; high fee and segmented travel benefits
Miles & More MyFlex€01 mile per €21.95%Revolving card; minimum repayment is 10% or €50 unless you pay more manually
Miles & More Blue€66/year1 mile per €21.95%Full debit by default; protects Miles & More miles while the card is active
Miles & More Gold€138/year1 mile per €21.95%Full debit by default; adds travel insurance with conditions and deductibles
Eurowings Premium€99/year1 mile per €20%Partial repayment is preset; change it to full repayment to avoid interest

One PAYBACK point, one Membership Rewards point and one airline mile are not equal. PAYBACK states a cash value of one cent per point. Membership Rewards and airline miles have no single cash value because transfer ratios, award availability and surcharges vary.

Shortlist by the job you need done

  • You do not have a specific redemption: choose no new card yet. Start with the program overview.
  • You want flexible transfer options: compare Amex Green, Gold and Platinum by net annual cost. Gold and Platinum credits are worth only what you would otherwise spend.
  • You mainly need to prevent Miles & More expiry: compare the €66 Blue fee with the value of the miles at risk. Gold costs more because it adds insurance and travel benefits.
  • You want no annual fee: PAYBACK Amex and MyFlex both cost €0, but they are different products. PAYBACK Amex is settled in full; MyFlex is revolving and does not protect miles from expiry.
  • You spend often outside the euro area: issuer FX fees can erase ordinary earning. PAYBACK Visa and Eurowings Premium publish no issuer FX fee; check the exchange rate and other charges.
  • You need a debit account rather than credit: Revolut is not a credit card. Its paid plans, excluded purchase categories and variable RevPoints transfer value need a separate calculation.

Gold for flexible points at a lower recurring cost

Choose Gold only when you can justify its €240 annual cost with benefits you would use anyway.

Miles & More for a balance you need to protect

Compare Blue and Gold first; the regular fee and the insurance package are the difference that matters after any temporary offer ends.

Revolut for a debit account that already fits your use

Compare costs before benefits

  1. Calculate the regular annual fee after the first year.
  2. Count only credits and insurance you would buy anyway, subject to their activation and payment rules.
  3. Check acceptance and foreign-use costs against your actual spending.
  4. Confirm the repayment setting, interest rate and cash-withdrawal terms.
  5. Compare one realistic redemption, including taxes and surcharges.
  6. Check a current offer last.

If you are still deciding how to earn at all, return to the earning-method guide before choosing a card.
