Miles & More Gold Card Private
The Gold Card is the premium private Miles & More option. It earns at the same base rate as the private Blue Card, but adds travel insurance and travel-service benefits for a higher recurring fee. The right question is whether you would use those benefits without a temporary bonus.
Quick choice: Blue and Gold earn at the same base rate and both protect eligible Miles & More balances. Gold costs €72 more per year for insurance and travel services; start with Blue Private if you do not expect to use those extras.
The regular terms at a glance
| Item | Regular term |
|---|---|
| Card fee | €11.50 per month (€138 per year) |
| Base earning | 1 award mile per €2 of eligible card spend |
| Mileage protection | Miles remain valid while an eligible Blue or Gold card is active |
| Travel package | Premium insurance, assistance and selected travel services; conditions apply |
| Foreign-currency cost | 1.95% issuer fee; ATM-operator charges can still apply |
| Repayment | Check the current application and price-list settings before relying on a payment period |
Gold costs €72 more per year than private Blue. Since both cards earn one mile per €2 and can protect miles, that €72 difference is the price of the extra insurance and travel package—not a better base earning rate.
What the Gold package adds
- Premium travel insurance: the issuer lists travel-health, trip-cancellation and interruption, and rental-car cover. Payment rules, deductibles, limits and exclusions differ by section; read the current certificate before cancelling another policy.
- Travel assistance: Allianz Telemedicine and a 24-hour assistance service can be useful on a trip, but only under their stated access conditions.
- Hotel and partner benefits: Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status and selected Avis benefits are included while the card is valid and after any required registration.
- Practical travel extras: the issuer lists limited foreign ATM-fee relief and Flexiroam data packages. Verify the annual count, participating locations and activation process before assigning them a value.
- MilesPay and Points: miles can be used through MilesPay under its terms, and eligible card earn can be exchanged for Points under the current annual limit. Welcome and promotional miles may be excluded from that exchange.
Insurance is not a cash rebate. Count it only if the cover matches a trip you would take and you would otherwise pay for comparable protection. A claim may still have a deductible, a card payment requirement or an excluded activity.
Mileage protection is the durable benefit
While an eligible Gold or Blue card is active, Miles & More protects miles collected before and during the card period from the normal 36-month expiry. After cancellation, ordinary expiry rules apply again, with the issuer’s stated grace period. The Gold fee therefore buys ongoing protection and insurance only for as long as the card remains useful to you.
When Gold is worth comparing
Gold can fit when you travel often enough to use the insurance or assistance, do not already hold equivalent cover, and can justify €138 every year. Compare the value of the actual trips and services—not the headline list of benefits—with the €66 Blue alternative.
When Blue or another card is safer
- You mainly need expiry protection and Mastercard acceptance: start with Blue Private.
- Your spending is genuinely business-related: compare Gold Business and its business eligibility instead of using a private card.
- Your existing Amex or travel policy already covers the same risks: avoid paying twice; use the all-card comparison to check the no-card or Blue outcome.
- You are applying mainly for a temporary bonus: check the verified card-offer page and its review status, then re-run the decision using the €138 regular fee.
How to read a temporary offer
A welcome package can change first-year value, but it cannot change the €138 fee, insurance conditions or 12-month product commitments. We publish a bonus amount and deadline only after a fresh official-source review on the verified card-offer page. If no Gold Private entry appears there, make the decision on the regular terms above.
